“We stayed here for a long weekend mountain biking and were made very welcome – the owners are friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic – I can highly recommend the haggis!!”

The mountain bike trails at Ae, Mabie, Dalbeattie, Kirroughtree and Glentrool are located in the county. They are tough and demanding, encouraging you to concentrate at all times. Every location is well organised and have great skills and technique information to assist you in your challenge.

For those looking for a more leisurely time the region has loads to offer that will ensure you have an enjoyable time at your own pace. Try the National Byway route for the region which uses quiet B roads to ensure your safety. The route gives you the opportunity to visit Keir Mill where the local blacksmith, Kirkpatrick McMillan first invented the bicycle in 1839.

We certainly have the beautiful scenery, quiet roads and trails to ensure a cycling holiday is an ideal way to explore the region. We also have Scotland’s only museum dedicated to bicycles at Drumlanrig Castle.

If you prefer things to be more organised there are a number of good small businesses that will set up your cycling holiday from weekend breaks to longer tours dependant on how much you would like to do. They have the regional experience to ensure that you cover all the specific themes that are of interest to you such as castles, museums, nature reserves and gardens. Along the way they will point you in the direction of the best restaurants, bar food and tea – rooms on your route.

For your peace of mind our secure basement at Glenaldor House allows you to leave all your valuable bicycles and sporting equipment in a safe and protected area.
